Bihar logs 15,126 new Covid cases, Patna 3,665 in 24 hours

The number of Covid-19 cases continued to surge in the state with 15,126 more people testing positive for the virus on Thursday. Patna district surpassed all its previous records by logging 3,665 fresh cases in the last 24 hours. The district now accounts for 24.2% of the total cases in the state. Officially, 90 deaths were recorded in the state on Thursday.

PATNA: The number of Covid-19 cases continued to surge in the state with 15,126 more people testing positive for the virus on Thursday. Patna district surpassed all its previous records by logging 3,665 fresh cases in the last 24 hours. The district now accounts for 24.2% of the total cases in the state. Officially, 90 deaths were recorded in the state on Thursday.
Asked about massive surge in Covid cases in Patna on Thursday, district magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh said, “Delayed release of results by different laboratories could be one of the reasons.
We will do proper analysis and take all necessary steps,” he added.
With this, Patna’s active caseload has mounted to 21,704. Officially, 29 fresh deaths were reported in Patna, nine in Muzaffarpur, eight in Bhagalpur, six each in Nalanda and Darbhanga and five in Madhubani. The state’s overall Covid toll has touched 3,077.
So far, 5,53,803 people have tested positive in the state since the outbreak of the virus in March last year. However, with 4,35,574 recoveries, the state’s active caseload stood at 1,15,150 on Thursday.
AIIMS-Patna has reported seven fresh deaths and six of the deceased were from Patna. Altogether 35 patients were admitted to the hospital and 23 discharged on Thursday. The hospital had 327 Covid patients on Thursday.
Nalanda Medical College and Hospital also has also recorded seven fresh deaths. Four of the victims were from Patna. Altogether 32 patients were admitted to the hospital and 16 discharged on Thursday. At least 377 Covid patients were undergoing treatment at the hospital on Thursday.

Among other districts, Gaya reported 752 fresh cases, Muzaffarpur 736, Nalanda 535 and West Champaran 533 in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, 95,202 doses of Covid-19 vaccines were administered to people in the state on Thursday. Among the beneficiaries, 38,503 received their first shot and 56,699 second. At least 62.44 lakh people have so far received their first and 15.15 lakh others second doses in the state.
No tentative date for commencement of vaccination drive for beneficiaries in the age group of 18 to 44 years has yet been given by the state health department.
