Former KV Oostende sporting manager Guy Ghysel hopes Rangers-bound Fashion Sakala is handed a starring role at Ibrox next season.

The frontman has penned a four-year deal with Steven Gerrard 's side and will join up with his new team-mates in the summer.

The Zambia international has shone on both the wing and as a centre-forward this season in the Belgian top flight having netted 13 goals so far.

Ghysel, who was a key part of the scouting set-up that snapped up the 24-year-old from Spartak Moscow, reckons Sakala will only go from strength to strength with the Premiership champions.

The former KVO chief reckons Alexander Blessin has managed to bring the best out of the player and reckons Gerrard and Ross Wilson should be taking notes from the boss.

He told Belgian outlet KW of Sakala: "There was already interest from abroad in January last year.

"However, we were not well in the standings and we agreed to discuss a possible transfer the following summer.

"But since I left on March 1, it never got that far. Well, he also got better under Blessin.

"Fashion has taken many steps and don't forget: he is still only 24 years old, hey.

"His transfer to Glasgow Rangers is good. A great club in a football crazy city.

"I was able to experience this myself when we investigated a collaboration with Celtic Glasgow with KVO (in 2008). Football is religion, the facilities are fantastic.

"Hopefully he will be played in his right position."
