A fire broke out at art director Nitin Chandrakant Desai-owned Jodha Akbar film set at Khalapur in Raigad on Friday afternoon.
After the film was shot at the set, it was not dismantled. It has since become a tourist attraction.
While the blaze was doused after three hours of fire-fighting operation, a considerable portion of the fibre set was gutted.
According to the local administration, the fire broke out between 12 pm and 12.30 pm from a corner of the set, located near railway tracks. Around 4 pm, the fire was doused and cooling operation was on till the evening.
“There is no casualty. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. However, it is being suspected that the fire spread from the grass outside the studio near the railway tracks,” said Khalapur Tehsildar Iresh Chappalwar. An inquiry is on, he added.
Meanwhile, a plastic paint brush manufacturing unit was gutted in a fire at Bhiwandi near Mumbai on Friday morning. No casualty was reported in the blaze, which was doused after four hours of fire-fighting operation. Officials said the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
