Odisha: Berhampur accounts for one-third of Ganjam’s active positive cases

Around one-third of active cases and deaths in Ganjam district so far has been reported from Berhampur, the biggest commercial hub in southern Odisha. Till Friday, Berhampur accounted for 560 active positive cases and 85 deaths, while the district’s total active caseload and toll stood at 1668 and 262, respectively.

BERHAMPUR: Around one-third of active cases and deaths in Ganjam district so far has been reported from Berhampur, the biggest commercial hub in southern Odisha. Till Friday, Berhampur accounted for 560 active positive cases and 85 deaths, while the district’s total active caseload and toll stood at 1668 and 262, respectively.
“Since Berhampur is the main wholesale market and medical hub in southern Odisha, people from other areas visit here daily, which is one of the reasons for the virus spread,” said Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) commissioner Sudheswar Baliram Bondare.
Besides, there’s movement of people to and from states like Andhra Pradesh which is another reason for the virus spread. “Not just Berhampur, such problems are being faced by almost all the urban bodies across the country,” Bondare said.
