Belt Highway: No left turns in utility work zone

Turning restrictions in place both directions

St. Joseph, Mo. – A water main break on U.S. Route 169 (Belt Highway) just south of Karnes Road, has resulted in a prolonged work zone to repair roadway damage. Missouri American Water’s contractor, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, has closed both southbound lanes and the middle turn lane of the Belt Highway from just north of Floral Avenue to just north of Summit Avenue. Traffic is narrowed to one lane, each direction, in the northbound lanes.

For the safety of all drivers, and to prevent traffic backups, no left turns are permitted to or from the Belt Highway within the limits of the work zone.  The current traffic pattern and turning restrictions may remain place until further notice while the roadway damage is repaired.

All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.

As part of National Work Zone Awareness Week, MoDOT is asking drivers to work with us this construction season. Always buckle up and keep your phone down, and slow down and move over in work zones. Know before you go, and check what work zones you might encounter at traveler.modot.org.
