A second wave of coronavirus infections has ravaged India, leaving millions of people infected and the country’s already overtaxed healthcare system is under stress, notes Vibha, a U.S.-based non- profit which is engaged in mobilizing assistance to save lives, stop the spread of COVID-19, and meet the urgent health needs of people in India.

The organization has disbursed $600,000 of which $125K was deployed  immediately through their twenty trusted partner NGOs (with whom Vibha has been partnering for several years for education initiatives) to take care of the immediate needs of the communities.

The Indian partners procured 850 oxygen concentrators. The first batch is being distributed to Ambedkarnagar (UP), Meerut (UP), Srungavarapukota (AP), Beed (Maharashtra), Bengaluru (Karnataka), and Beawar (Rajasthan), a press release from Vibha said.

Michelin-star Chef Vikas Khanna whose “Feed India” initiative fed 50 million Indians during the first wave of the COVID pandemic, has partnered with Vibha during this challenging time.

In an interview with Anderson Cooper on national media, Khanna said, “We all need to be part of the solution. We need to create force and muscle power here and use our resources to help India.” He also said that “No one is safe until everyone is safe, so along with Vibha in the next phase the plan is  to open vaccination sites and awareness centers,” the press release said.

In the next phase, Vibha is working on getting PPE and medical supplies.

Since 1991 Vibha has been able to reach out to and provide opportunities for over 2.3 million under-served and marginalized children, according to Shah, and urged people to visit vibha.org/donate to join Vibha’s effort for India.
