The National Institute of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases (NITRD) has been converted into a designated Covid care centre in the national capital, a notice in this regard issued by Delhi government's health and family welfare department on Wednesday announced. An oxygen tanker met with an accident as it turned turtle after the vehicle allegedly fell into a roadside ditch in north Delhi's Civil Lines area, police said on Wednesday. The incident took place late on Tuesday night, they said. On reaching the spot, the tanker was found to have fallen in a ditch dug by the Public Works Department (PWD) for some construction work near Swami Narain Mandir on Outer Ring Road, the police said.

Covid: ASI monuments to remain closed for visitors till May 31

All centrally-protected monuments under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) will continue to remain closed till May 31 due to a surge in Covid-19 cases, Union Culture Minister Prahlad Patel said on Wednesday. An order to this effect was issued by the ASI and it was tweeted by Patel. These monuments are currently closed for the public till May 15 by an earlier order.

Hansraj College offers hostel space as Covid care facility

Delhi University’s Hansraj College has written to the chief minister, deputy CM and the lieutenant governor requesting them to convert its hostel space into a 100-bed Covid centre with oxygen beds or a vaccination centre. The college on Tuesday also set up a kiosk for RT-PCR testing on the campus, which will be ready from Wednesday. Principal Rama Sharma wrote, “Just like others, the university employees and their families are also facing challenges to find Covid facilities for their dear ones. This could help such people and reduce some of their anxiety.”

PIL in Delhi HC seeks sufficient infrastructure for dead bodies of Covid-19 patients

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was moved in Delhi High court seeking direction to Delhi government and concerned department to formulate a concrete plan with sufficient infrastructure to provide facilities to the people pertaining to the dead bodies probably infected from Covid-19 like a mortuary, funeral, transportation and handling facilities in this high time of urgency. The hearing was scheduled to be held on Wednesday but the concerned bench of the Delhi high court didn't assembled so the matter adjourned for the next date of hearing.

‘No ventilator allotted to corporation hospitals’

North Delhi Municipal Corporation has slammed Delhi government for not allocating a single ventilator from the 990 procured by it. Mayor Jai Prakash said the ventilators were distributed among 15 hospitals on Wednesday, but not one was allotted to the municipal corporations, despite their requests.
