UDUPI: The stage is all set for the Pattabhishekha of the 31st successor of Sri Shiroor Mutt, one of the (Ashta) eight Madhwa mutts of Udupi. The Pattabhishekha is likely to be a low key affair with lockdown 2.0 regulations in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Also, the religious ceremony scheduled to be held at Sonda Kshetra of Sirsi in Uttara Kannada District, has been changed and it will be held at the Moola Mutt (original mutt) of Shiroor at Hiriyadka near Udupi, according to Sri Vishwavallabha Tirtha of Sode Vadiraja Mutt (dwandwa mutt).

The religious ceremonies for the vatu, Aniruddha, son of Dr M Uday Kumar Saralatthaya and Shrividya, to head the Mutt will be held between Tuesday to May 14, where he will be given Sanyasi Deekshe and Pattabhisheka ceremony will be held. He will also be given a new name as per tradition. The Sanyasa Sweekara ceremony will be held between 7.30 to 8 am on May 13 and the pattabhisheka will be held in Abhijin Lagnam from 12.35 pm to 12.50 pm on May 14.
The Vatu has already completed visits to several important pilgrimage centres along with his parents and has also met the Seers of the Ashta Mutt.
The Seer had taken the responsibility of announcing a suitable ‘vatu’ (bachelor) as the head of Shiroor Mutt after Sri Lakshmivara Tirtha, head of Shiroor Mutt, passed away without appointing a successor on July 19, 2018.
