The Perham boys tennis team got its first victory in Osakis, winning 5-2 against the Silverstreaks Monday, May 10.

Head coach Lori Peterson has been changing up the doubles teams and singles competitors, which may have helped contribute to the Yellowjackets win.

The 1st doubles team of Hudson Hackel and Soren Anderson played together for the first time and beat the Osakis 1st doubles team 6-3, 6-1. Avery Halvorson and Michael Anderson also teamed up and had a decisive 6-1, 6-1 victory at 2nd doubles.

Some players who had been playing on a doubles team switched to playing singles, such as Jack Fudge, who played his first singles match at 4th singles of the season. "He made a strong showing by overpowering his opponent with a score of 6-1, 6-1," Peterson said.

The team travels to Fergus Falls for a triangular Tuesday, May 11, at 3:30 p.m.

Yellowjackets swept at triangular by EGF, Crookston Friday, May 7

Perham faced East Grand Forks and Crookston in a triangular event Friday, May 7, and lost to both teams 4-3.

The singles lineup continues to be strong for the Yellowjackets. The top three singles positions of Josh Peterson, Mikey Schwantz, and Jack Birkeland all won their matches against both EGF and Crookston.

The doubles teams didn't fare quite as well in the triangular, according to Peterson.

"Against Crookston, we were down to the wire with our doubles team of Reece Wilprecht and Avery Halverson left playing for the win," she said. "They came up a little short in the second set after going into a tiebreaker in the first set. These two have come a long way this season. Both Reece and Avery are in their first year of tennis, and they've worked hard and have come a long way with their tennis skills."

Perham loses second meeting with Detroit Lakes

The Yellowjackets were able to win only one match in their second meeting with Detroit Lakes on Thursday, May, in Perham.

The 1st doubles team of Jack Fudge and Josh Peterson got the only win for the Yellowjackets, defeating DL's Connor Zamzo and Gavin Smith 6-3, 6-2.

Despite the losses, Peterson felt the singles players performed well. Jack Birkeland stepped up to first singles and lost in a three-set tiebreaker.

"Jack played a great match with some long rallies," Peterson said. "He proved that he can step up to the number one spot and play very competitively. Everyone is working toward improving in certain skill areas and we are making progress. I'm seeing more confidence and more knowledge in knowing how to play strategically."
