Rail users have been hit by cancelled trains and disruption due to a bridge being damaged between Nuneaton and Coleshill.

According to Network Rail, there has been damage to a railway bridge between Nuneaton and Coleshill Parkway meaning all lines are currently blocked between these stations.

CoventryLive contacted Network Rail to find out the location of the bridge and how it was damaged.

A Network Rail spokesperson explained: “We’re sorry to passengers affected by the disruption between Coleshill Parkway and Nuneaton after we had to close a railway bridge over the River Blythe.

“Structural engineers are currently inspecting damage to the bridge. Where possible trains are being diverted via Tamworth and we’d ask anyone travelling in the area today to check National Rail Enquiries before they make their journey.”

CrossCountry services has said that it will call additionally at Tamworth to allow passengers to connect on to CrossCountry services towards Birmingham New Street and London Northwestern Railway services.

CrossCountry tickets will be accepted on Arriva Bus routes 158 Nuneaton bus station - Leicester Haymarket bus station (via Hinckley) and X84 Narborough - Leicester Charles Street.

They will also be accepted on National Express West Midlands bus routes X70 Birmingham - Chelmsley Wood (via Coleshill and Water Orton) and X12 Birmingham City Centre - Solihull via Birmingham International.


A coach service operated by Green has been also been scheduled to run from Birmingham International calling at Nuneaton and Leicester.

West Midlands Railway are conveying passengers between Nuneaton and Coventry in both directions until further notice.

London Northwestern Railway are conveying passengers between Rugby and Birmingham New Street via Tamworth in both directions until further notice
