KOLKATA: In the backdrop of the ongoing Sitalkuchi firing probe, Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar said he will visit the place in Cooch Behar on Thursday. In a post on Twitter, Dhankhar said: “Will be leaving Kolkata by BSF helicopter on May 13 to visit post-poll violence-affected areas in Sitalkuchi and other places in Cooch Behar to connect with sufferers.”
Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee reacted soon, saying: “Dhankar ji, from the moment of oath ceremony of Hon'ble CM Mamata Banerjee, you are interfering with the state government’s administration and blaming the present government for post-poll violence.
Your actions are unconstitutional and unethical. Kindly restrain yourself from being BJP’s flag-bearer and act in accordance with the constitutional law.”
The developments also coincided with CISF officers failing to turn up at Bhawani Bhawan on Tuesday despite the CID summons. The CID’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case wants to question the six CISF personnel before calling the former SP of Cooch Behar, Debasish Dhar, for questioning.
Talking to TOI, DIG (CID) Kalyan Mukherjee said: “They have communicated that they want to come at a later date. We will make an informed decision soon.” CID sources said a second notice will be served following which, if unanswered, the cops will approach the court.
On Tuesday, CID questioned Mathabhanga police station sub-inspector Gobinda Das. He is the fourth cop from Mathabhanga police — the others being the IC, two ASIs on election duty at Sitalkuchi on April 10 and the investigating officer of the case — to be summoned by the agency. Das was one of the key witnesses, said a CID source.
The CID brass claimed it has not yet asked Dhar, presently suspended by the state, to join the investigations.
Senior CISF officers said it may not be possible to arrange for the logistics of sending these six personnel — presently posted at different locations in India — to Kolkata within 24 hours amid the pandemic.
The officers indicated they would seek a later date for the appearance.
