Liverpool kept their Champions League hopes alive on Saturday night with a hard-fought 2-0 win over Southampton at Anfield.

Just four games remain for the Reds this season and it's all on the line, with Jurgen Klopp's men still having their eyes on a top four finish after the results at the weekend.

But as well as plenty happening on the pitch, there is also plenty going on off it.

Whether it be transfers, injuries, contracts or the club’s response to the failed European Super League, there have been plenty for Reds fans to talk about over the last few weeks.

And following on from the recent developments, our Chief Liverpool writer Ian Doyle took part in a special Liverpool ECHO Q&A on Tuesday afternoon.

Liverpool have been linked to many players Konate, Vlahovic, Malen, Bissouma to name a few, which deals do you think are more likely to happen?

Ian Doyle: Konate is a definite target but it's not quite as straightforward as him being signed. Will Liverpool have Champions League football next season? Will they have ANY European football? Will Leipzig agree to staggered payments? The devil is in the detail.

Top four question for you, Doyley. I'm presuming you think City may just about win the league from here...but if you had to predict the full top four at the end of the season, how would you call it?

ID: There is a strong chance Manchester City may win the title, although I don't want to put my neck out completely and commit to that. As for the rest... Manchester United and Chelsea are going to be second and third. Leicester, though, are in danger of completely imploding and a lot will depend on what happens tonight at United.

West Ham, I think, have perhaps gone. Tottenham just aren't good enough. That leaves Leicester, Liverpool and Everton for that fourth place. Everton would have to win all four games - which is a stretch for a team who can't win at home - and the only way Liverpool can do it is by doing the same. Liverpool would be unlucky to win their final four and not get in the top four.

Which I know hasn't answered your question. So... Leicester at the moment are my favourites to finish fourth. But that could be completely different by Thursday 10.15pm.

Doyley, do you expect Wijnaldum to leave or could there be a dramatic contract turnaround in the coming weeks? If he leaves, do you expect Liverpool to sign a replacement?

ID: I would expect Wijnaldum to leave unless, as you say, something dramatic happens. And who can blame him - he's at an age where he'll get one final move, a new experience, and he will go down as a Liverpool great. It won't be easy to replace him, but Liverpool will have to, if not least because of a lack of numbers in midfield.

Are Liverpool in for Aour?

ID: In short - not sure. But what's certain is that Liverpool will have been watching him for a while, be well aware of his contract situation and asking price, and any potential future movement. The club are very well connected in such matters. Aouar is one they will have been assessing - but so too will have a lot of other clubs.

Do you think Harvey Elliott will be involved in the first team setup next season, given how well his loan spell at Blackburn went, and the potential / development he has shown, alongside Liverpool’s need for greater depth in attack?

ID: Elliott believes he will be involved in the first-team set-up next season, so it's probably fair to say Liverpool are working under the same assumption. The Reds have been impressed with Elliott's progress at Blackburn Rovers in the Championship - not an easy league - and there's no doubt he has the raw talent to put himself in with a shout for more minutes. He now has greater experience too.

What do you think of our front three? Would you think we should replace one or even two of the front three next season?

ID: If Liverpool don't have to replace any of the front three, they won't. The only reason that will happen is if one or more of them decide they want to leave and a very good offer comes in from another club. In my view, though, I would be amazed if a forward isn't signing in the summer to further challenge those already at the club - particularly in a central attacking area.

Do you think that our front three are already past their peak? All three almost 30 by next season. Their value would go downhill from there?

ID: Depends how you define peak, really. In terms of output, you'd have to say that was in 2018 - but Liverpool didn't win anything then. They did the next two seasons, so perhaps that was their peak? As a front-three unit they are perhaps past their best as regular starters together, but individually they still all offer a threat and will benefit from greater competition and variety.

If a forward is signed in the summer will it be a big name like Jadon Sancho?

ID: Unless one of Liverpool's main players agitates to leave and a huge offer comes in for them, Liverpool as it stands are almost certain not to sign any marquee players such as Mbappe, Haaland and, given what Dortmund want for him, Sancho. This is hardly a surprise given the ongoing losses prompted by the coronavirus pandemic.

Are there any updates on the new Liverpool FC Women manager or where the team will be playing and training next season?

ID: No confirmation on any of these at the moment, but the manager's role is likely to be addressed very soon.

Nail your flags to the mast Ian.... give us one CB, MF & FW Liverpool should/will sign this summer.

ID: I'm afraid I'd just be plucking out names of players who seem to be trending on social media who I've never actually watched before to any great extent. And players who I'd like Liverpool to sign just aren't going to happen because they play for clubs that would never sell to the Reds! I'd trust the recruitment team ahead of my opinion, to be fair.

Ian, I asked you a question whether LFC will allow Virgil to go to the Euros this summer on the last Q n A. What is your thought on it? Do you think it's right for him to go?

ID: If Van Dijk is fit enough to go, then I actually think he should go. It will give him much-needed playing time and it's hardly going to exhaust him ahead of next season. Plus it could bolster his confidence to be helping his country. But if there's even a 1% doubt he's not ready - forget it.

Is there a possibility of signing both Kabak and Konate this season Ian?

ID: Definitely a possibility. At least they know what Kabak will cost. A lot will depend on the cost of Konate upfront, what Klopp decides to do with Phillips and how he judges the long-term fitness of Van Dijk, Gomez and Matip. There are some big calls to be made.

Hi Ian we keep hearing that can't sign big names due to pandemic but given that Jurgen's net spend is lower than Brighton's and FSG constantly boasting about their new Commercial deals where is the money going exactly? At this rate are we not in danger of returning to the days where fourth is the highest we could realistically aim for.

ID: Don't forget, almost every other club is in the same position. You might argue that FSG's business model means Liverpool have lost less - relatively speaking - than a lot of other clubs. But it's still going to make an impact. Only state-owned teams aren't going to be that bothered. And the money is paying for the current squad's wages.

Is there any chance that Man Utd supporters may protest like they did again?

ID: I'd imagine the United fans will be keen to protest but the authorities will be wise to efforts to disrupt the match on Thursday... unlike last time.
