Willmar makes it a tougher battle in tennis loss to Sartell

WILLMAR — It may not be reflected in the final score, but Willmar boys tennis coach Forrest Rice sees improvement in his team.

Sartell beat Willmar 7-0 in a Central Lakes Conference match Tuesday at Willmar Senior High School.

“The team score wasn’t great, but I think the kids played a lot better than they have in the past against these guys,” Rice said. “The kids played a lot better than the first time against Sartell.”

At No. 1 singles, Willmar’s Jordy Contreras lost to Tyler Braegelmann 6-2, 6-4. Sartell’s Jaden Otto won at No. 3 singles over Josh Jensen 6-4, 6-2.

And, at No. 1 doubles, Sartell’s Zak Foley and Clayton Fuller beat Willmar’s Jorge Zelaya Velasquez and Andrew Ziebarth 6-4, 6-2.

CMC - Sauk Centre

The Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa boys locked up the Central Minnesota Conference team championship following a win at the Lynx National Golf Course.

The Jaguars won Tuesday with a team score of 324, beating Kimball/Eden Valley-Watkins’ 334. Kimball/EVW’s Luke Ashbrock was the medalist Tuesday with a 69.

The Osakis girls, led by medalist Kadyn Thiebenbach’s 90, took first with a team score of 459.
