Garden Club hosts plant sale

The Park Ridge Garden Club’s 90th annual plant sale will take place Saturday, May 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cumberland Park, 101 S. Cumberland Ave. in Park Ridge.

An assortment of plants including perennials, annuals, herbs and vegetables will be offered for sale. Cash and credit card will be accepted, according to the garden club.

Parking is available in a lot located one block east at Prairie Avenue and Garden Street.

A pre-sale of some plants for contact-free pickup will also take place online. For more information visit parkridgegardenclub.org.

Action Ridge hosts panel on policing

Action Ridge will host an online discussion about law enforcement in Park Ridge and criminal justice reform in Illinois on May 13 at 7 p.m.

The panel will include Sara Knizhnik, director of community engagement with the Newtown Action Alliance; Peter Hanna, legal advisor to the ACLU of Illinois; and Frank Kaminski, police chief of Park Ridge.

According to Action Ridge, topics will include the Illinois criminal justice reform act, known as the SAFE-T Act; action for racial equality and social justice; and local police department policies regarding teens.

Community Service Day

The Center of Concern is seeking volunteers for its annual Community Service Day, scheduled for Saturday, May 15.

Volunteer activities include window washing, yard maintenance, and outdoor spring clean-up for older adults, the organization said.

Library award nominations sought

The Park Ridge Library Board of Trustees is seeking nominations for the 2021 Library Award, which recognizes an individual or group that has provided extraordinary service to the library.

Honorees may be nominated for their service over the last year or over a number of years, the library said. Current members of the Park Ridge Library Board of Trustees are not eligible.

A nomination form can be found at https://www.parkridgelibrary.org/assets/1/6/award_application_2021-final.pdf. Forms must be returned by May 28 to the Park Ridge Public Library, Communications and Development Committee, 20 S. Prospect Ave., Park Ridge, IL 60068.

Block party permits available

The city of Park Ridge has announced that it is now accepting permit applications for block parties.

Applications are available on the city’s website, parkridge.us, and must be completed and returned two full working days prior to the proposed event, according to the city.

Only local streets can be closed for block parties and applications for private parties and weddings will not be accepted, the city said.

All block parties must comply with current guidelines under the Restore Illinois Plan, according to the city.
