Man hospitalized after hatchet assault reported in Tuscaloosa

A 31-year-old man was hospitalized Friday afternoon after a witness said he was attacked with a hatchet or axe while traveling on McFarland Boulevard.

Police said officers responded to the 3100 block of McFarland Boulevard E just before 5:00 p.m.

Police said the witness said that she and the victim were traveling northbound on McFarland when an acquaintance jumped from the passenger seat of a nearby vehicle and began to assault the man.

Police said the suspect and the victim have been involved in an ongoing dispute.

The victim sustained serious head injuries during the incident but police said the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

Police were still searching for the suspect as of Friday night.
