Anushka Sharma-Virat Kohli to hit COVID-19 fundraising goal of Rs 7 crore soon, raise Rs 5 crore in donations

Power couple Anushka Sharma and her hubby Virat Kohli released a joined video last week to announce 'an initiative for India's COVID-19 relief work. In a video posted on social media, Kohli and Anushka expressed concern about the COVID-19 situation in India and shared details of a fundraiser they have organised for relief work. The couple donated Rs 2 crore to the fund. Now, so far, Bollywood actress Anushka and her cricketer husband Virat's fundraiser for the COVID-19 relief has raised over Rs 5 crore. The initiative aims at collecting Rs 7 crore. Anushka, elated, took to her Instagram stories to announce the news and to thank everyone for donating. She said, 'A big thank you to all the people who helped us reach this mile stone'. At the time of publishing this story, the fundraiser had managed to collect Rs 5,45,76,401 so far. 18272 supporters had given generously to help Anushka-Virat reach this goal. For the unversed, the donations, going by the description on the fundraiser site, aims at tackling 'the immediate shortage of oxygen supply on a war footing.' The funds raised will 'support the deployment of oxygen solutions, including concentrators and oxygen plants to hospitals across India, and also look at bolstering medical manpower, home care and help scale India’s vaccination efforts.' Coming to their joint video statement last week, sharing the video on Instagram, Anushka had written, 'As our country battles the second wave of Covid-19, and our healthcare systems are facing extreme challenges, it breaks my heart to see our people suffering. So, Virat and I have initiated a campaign #InThisTogether, to raise funds for Covid-19 relief.' Last year, Anushka and Virat had donated towards the PM-Cares relief fund and the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund in Maharashtra. Anushka had even given her birthday celebrations a miss this year stating that it didn't feel right to celebrate with the current COVID-19 crisis in India.
