Taylor Swift took her Global Icon crown at the Brit Awards 2021 and made history while she was at it.
Swift became the first woman to receive the global icon prize, which has previously been awarded to superstars such as Elton John, David Bowie and Robbie Williams.
For the big night, Taylor opted for a stunning silvery sequin number. While international media dubbed the elaborate embellished ensemble as a skirt and cropped top, desi Swifties went into overdrive on social media and hailed the star for wearing a lehenga.

"Okayyy soo the QUEEN is wearing an Indian traditional but modern wear... a lehenga... u CANNOT SAY ANYTHING ELSE let me have this ONE," a Swiftie wrote on Twitter.
Another said, "TAYLOR SWIFT CHANNELING HER INNER DESI SELF LORD WOW THIS LEHENGA SERVED."
Yet another added, "TAYLOR SWIFT LEHENGA ERA."

During the show, Swift watched a montage of singers praising her work, including bestie Ed Sheeran, Annie Lennox, along with Selena Gomez who declared, "She is generous and kind and cares so deeply for her fans."

Accepting her award, Swift said, "I want to thank my friends and family who know exactly who they are. Whose opinion of me never changed whether my stock was up or down. If there's one thing that I've learned, it's that you have to look around every day and take note of the people who have always believed in you and never stop appreciating them for it."
In a motivating speech to her fans, she said, "I need you to hear me when I say that there is no career path that comes free of negativity. If you're being met with resistance, that probably means that you're doing something new."
"If you're experiencing turbulence or pressure, that probably means that you're rising and there might be times where you put your whole heart and soul into something and it is met with cynicism or scepticism You cannot let that crush you," she added.
"You have to let it fuel you because we live in a world where anyone has the right to say anything they want about you at any time. But just please remember that you have the right to prove them wrong," she concluded.
Taylor is the biggest selling artist in the U.K. so far in 2021, following the release of her re-recorded album, 'Fearless.'
