Covid-19: Over 30,000 cases in Tamil Nadu; 293 deaths

Fresh cases in Chennai crossed the 30,000 mark on Wednesday after the public health department announced 30,355 new cases on a day test samples were drawn from 1.49lakh people. After 293 deaths and 19,508 discharges, there were1.7 lakh people in the active cases registry. The total cases crossed 14.6 lakh and the cumulative toll touched16,471.

CHENNAI: Fresh cases in Chennai crossed the 30,000 mark on Wednesday after the public health department announced 30,355 new cases on a day test samples were drawn from 1.49lakh people. After 293 deaths and 19,508 discharges, there were1.7 lakh people in the active cases registry. The total cases crossed 14.6 lakh and the cumulative toll touched16,471.
All 37 districts reported more than 100 cases each, while six districts reported more than 1,000 cases each.
Hotspot Chennai reported 7,564 new cases and 89 deaths, followed by 2670 cases and 28 deaths in Chengalpet. They were followed by Coimbatore (2636), Tiruvallur (1344), Madurai (1172) and Kanyakumari (1072). At least 13 other districts reported more than 500 cases each. Ariyalur and Kallakurichi , which had the least number of cases reported 149 and 144 cases respectively.
Barring Ramanathapuram, Dharmapuri, Ariyalur and Kallakurichi, deaths were reported from all other districts. After Chennai and Chengalpet, highest number of deaths were from Tiruvallur
(21). At least five other districts reported between 10 and 18 deaths.
Puducherry reported 2,007 fresh Covid-19 cases even as 1,247 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of active cases to 15,562. Of them, 13,497 patients are in home isolation and treatment.
