KANPUR: A day after quitting their posts citing harassment at the hands of administrative officials, 16 government doctors, posted as in-charges in rural hospitals of Unnao district, relented on Thursday after the intervention of the district administration and took back their resignations.
The doctors, who are in charge of CHCs & PHCs , had submitted their resignation to the chief medical officer of the district on Wednesday.

In the resignation letter, the doctors stated that despite working hard in the field to prevent the spread of the pandemic, they are facing action and ill behaviour without any cause.
“Despite the fact, we are working hard round the clock, but it seems we are being labelled as ‘kaamchor’. We are being supervised by the DM, other officials, besides the SDM and the ‘tehsildar’, who are holding review meetings on a regular basis. We along with our team members go in the field to identify, track and isolate Covid positive patients, get their sampling done, and distribute required medicines. After that, when we are back, we again get calls from SDM asking to attend review meetings. After a day’s hard work and even if someone is posted 30 km away, officials instruct in charges to travel long distances and attend review meetings,” said Dr Sharad Vaishya, a doctor who was a part of the resignation team of doctors. “In the review meeting, in charges have to prove that they are working in the field. Going by the district officials’ perception, it appears that they take in charges for granted, which further suggests that as they are not doing their duty honestly, the pandemic is spreading,” he added.
District magistrate Unnao, Ravindra Kumar, on Thursday afternoon said that things have been sorted out and that the doctors have taken back their resignations.
“We had spoken to them on Wednesday and they had taken back their decision. I met them today (Thursday). I listened to their grievances and assured them of a solution for the same. Also, it’s our internal matter,” Kumar said in a statement.
