Scotland’s lockdown looks a lot less uniform than it has done in recent months as the majority of areas see restrictions ease.

Most of Scotland’s mainland has dropped down to level two restrictions from today - which has paved the way for Scots to meet inside homes for the first time in months.

Some of the country’s island communities have gone one further to level one due to extremely low infection numbers and high uptake of the vaccine.

But while most of the country enjoys new freedoms, Glasgow and Moray will see more of the same for at least another week.

Glasgow will stay in level three for at least another week

thoug.

Experts have expressed particular concerns over the situation in Glasgow as it has been suggested that the recent uptick in cases could be driven by the so-called Indian variant.

The Scottish Government says that it will review the position in Glasgow and Moray over the coming days.

There are also fears that East Renfrewshire could see level three restrictions reimposed following a surge in case numbers.

Public Health Scotland data shows that the rate of infection in East Renfrewshire is now higher than Moray.

Scots can use the Scottish Government’s Covid postcode checker to see what level their area is in.

People simply type in their postcode to search for the restrictions that apply to their local authority.
