Bihar CM virtually inspects community kitchens in 22 districts

PATNA: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Monday took stock of arrangements and facilities at different community kitchen centres in 22 districts by conducting a virtual tour of the kitchens through video conferencing from ‘Sankalp’ hall of his residence.
He also spoke to some of the beneficiaries at almost all kitchen centres, and took the opinion of the visitors about the facilities and quality of foods being provided at the centres.

The CM inquired from the beneficiaries since when she / he taking meal from the centre, how many time they take meal in a day, how many items they get in the meal and what are the items, how many members from their family take meal from the centre, and do they face any difficulty in getting meal from the government-run kitchens?
Mrs Hazra Khatoon, one of the beneficiaries of the community kitchen, being run at the Jehanabad bus stand, told the CM, “I am a street hawker. Our business is closed due to the lockdown. Here, there are very good arrangements for meals. Here, we get food that is more tasty than our home.”
Ruchi Bhardwaj, one of the beneficiaries at Sasaram community kitchen centre, informed the CM, “The centre delivers our food at the home after we inform them through mobile phone. Most of the members in my family are covid-19 infected and we all are in home isolation. As we get both meals from the community kitchen, we feel very relieved.”
After conducting a virtual tour of the community kitchen centres in 22 of total 38 districts, Nitish asked the concerned district magistrates (DMs) to increase the number of such kitchens in their jurisdiction so that the maximum number of needy people could get access to free meals.

He asked the DMs to continue the arrangements of both meals for labourers, poor, physically challenged and other needy people so that no person is left unfed.
The CM also asked the DMs to make arrangements for opening similar community kitchens at each block headquarters and make propaganda about the running kitchens so that maximum people reach there and get benefit of both meals. “Please also make arrangements of milk at each community kitchen for visiting children,” Nitish told the DMs.
He also asked the DMs to make arrangements for providing food to the home isolated patients through the home delivery system. “Also ensure proper arrangement of safe drinking water and regular sanitation at the centres, besides proper sanitization,” Nitish told the officials.
“All officials and employees engaged in managing and running the community kitchens should discharge their duty in the best possible way, so that no beneficiary would have to face inconvenience,” Nitish said and added, “We are taking all necessary steps to protect the life of people infected by covid-19. In Bihar, we are paying attention to the needs of all people.”
Earlier, the DMs of Kishanganj, Araria, Supaul, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Vaishali, Saran, Gopalganj, Munger, Jamui, Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura, Begusarai, Banka, Nawada, Jehanabad, Arwal, Buxar, Kaimur, Rohtas and Bhojpur gave detailed information to the CM about the arrangements made at the community kitchen centres in their respective district.
