HAVERI: After the video of a man bathing in cow dung, reportedly to boost his immunity, went viral on social media, grocery shop owners in a Haveri village are using it to ensure people maintain safe distance from one another.
In Basapur, around 25km from Haveri town, owners of two grocery shops have placed cow dung cakes on benches in front of their shops to prevent them from turning into sites for transmission of Covid-19.
Raju, one of the grocers, said the bench in front of his store was being used by people to rest, and in order to prevent that during the pandemic, he decided to place dung cakes on it.
"I appealed to the people to keep themselves at a safe distance, and not to sit on the bench, particularly when 20 villagers have contracted Covid-19 during the second wave. But they did not take my words seriously. That was when I decided to use cow dung cakes to ensure that they followed safety protocol," Raju said.
Muttappa owns a grocery shop not too far from Raju's. "The problem was that people were not following safety protocol, so I decided to follow Raju's example and put cow dung cakes in front of my shop. My customers are following social distancing," he said.
