GREATER NOIDA: The
Government Institute of Medical Sciences (
GIMS),
Greater Noida, will ramp up its testing capacity from 5,000 per day to 12,000 per day by next week.
The institute is procuring five RT-PCR machines, in addition to the three that are currently in use. GIMS conducts Covid tests for four districts, Gautam Budh Nagar,
Ghaziabad, Hapur and Saharanpur.
Once the machines arrive, samples from other places can also be tested.
“We will be conducting 12,000 tests daily from the end of May, as we are getting more RT-PCR machines. We are conducting 5,000-6,000 tests per day. The samples are usually from
GB Nagar, Ghaziabad, Hapur and Saharanpur,” said Dr
Vivek Gupta, molecular pathologist and associate professor, department of pathology, in-charge of molecular diagnostics and research laboratory, GIMS. “Eight RT-PCR machines will be functional at our lab soon,” said Dr Gupta.
The lab has 40 staffers. “There are about 27 technicians, doctors, scientists and assistants. We will be recruiting more if needed,” he said.
