NEW DELHI: A police constable and a home guard were charged with
murder after the death of an 18-year-old vegetable vendor, who was assaulted by them for defying Covid curfew norms at the
Bangarmau Kotwali police station area in Unnao district on Friday.
The family members of the deceased, Faisal, son of Mohd Islam of Bhatpuri locality of Bangarmau, alleged he was severely beaten up by two policemen —
Vijay Chaudhary (constable) and
Satya Prakash (home guard) — on Friday afternoon following which he succumbed to injuries.
Unnao SP Sureshrao A Kulkarni said, “Faisal sustained head injury and eight contusions on his body. We are seeking medico-legal opinion to find out if it has been caused by assault. A named
FIR has been lodged against the two accused.” Senior police officials rushed to the spot, and taking cognizance of the act, suspended both the police personnel with immediate effect.
