LUCKNOW: A day after being declared a notifiable disease, the state health department prepared a status report on black fungus or mucormycosis. According to the report, 506 cases and 19 deaths attributed to the infection have been recorded across 66 health centres of the state.
However, the list appears to be a ‘work in progress’. Take the example of cases listed for Lucknow.
While the list says that 111 cases of black fungus have been recorded here, it doesn’t match the information provided by KGMU.
KGMU administration has stated that 124 cases of black fungus have been reported at their center whereas the list has recorded only 29 at the university. The break-up of cases includes 46 recorded by the office of CMO.
The other centres where cases of black fungus have been reported include: RMLIMS (14), Chandan Hospital (16), Era’s Lucknow Medical College and Hospital (1) and Super Speciality Hospital, Burns and Trauma Center (5).
Similarly, the list states that 33 cases have been reported in Meerut while the district administration had issued a statement on Friday admitting 67 cases. In Meerut division, 115 cases have been recorded.
The list recorded 46 cases in Ghaziabad, 23 in Gautam Budh Nagar, 17 in Varanasi, 10 in Agra, eight in Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Ghazipur, Gorakhpur and Bareilly.
