BHUBANESWAR: With Yaas damaging thatched houses, public properties and infrastructure, the state government has shifted its focus to restoration of different services.
Minister of state (MoS) for home, Dibya Shankar Mishra is camping in Balasore to supervise evacuation, relief and restoration works. He was joined by food supplies and consumer welfare minister Ranendra Pratap Swain, who also proceeded to the district after chief minister Naveen Patnaik asked him to do so.
The MoS accompanied by culture and tourism minister Jyoti Prakash Panigrahi and BJD organizational secretary Pranab Prakash Das visited affected areas and spoke to the locals.
“Timely evacuation from vulnerable areas has helped us save lives. Sea water has entered some villages. The administration is supplying cooked food and dry ration to people,” he said.
Mishra, who heads the energy department, said section-wise assessment of loss to energy infrastructure is being carried out. “All arrangements have been made for quick restoration of power supply. It will be done so in hospitals and oxygen treatment plants on priority,” said Mishra.
Similarly, the district administration has started clearing major roads by removing the uprooted trees. The work is being executed by NDRF, ODRAF, fire service and forest personnel.
The administration is emphasizing on restoration of water supply both in rural and urban areas through tankers. The housing and urban development department has set up dedicated control rooms in all vulnerable civic bodies to address water supply-related issues.
