Covid-19: Trichy reports 20 deaths, Madurai 15, Kanyakumari 23

Madurai district reported 15 deaths and 1,538 fresh Covid-19 cases on Wednesday taking the tally to 60,074, which include 15,096 active cases. Meanwhile, Trichy district reported 1,775 fresh cases and 20 deaths, the highest in the region, which logged 45 casualties taking the toll to 1,956.

MADURAI/TRICHY: Madurai district reported 15 deaths and 1,538 fresh Covid-19 cases on Wednesday taking the tally to 60,074, which include 15,096 active cases. Meanwhile, Trichy district reported 1,775 fresh cases and 20 deaths, the highest in the region, which logged 45 casualties taking the toll to 1,956.
The southern districts recorded 90 deaths, of which 27 are people without any comorbid conditions.
It includes a 28-year-old woman from Tenkasi, a 30-year-old woman from Tuticorin and a 34-year-old woman from Kanyakumari. Kanyakumari district recorded 23 deaths, followed by Madurai (15), Theni (15) and Virudhunagar (10).
The ten southern districts reported 6,692 fresh cases. Virudhunagar (1,198) and Kanyakumari (1,116) recorded more than 1,000 new cases on Wednesday, followed by Theni (530), Tuticorin (507), Tirunelveli (505), Dindigul (480), Tenkasi (317), Ramanathapuram (263) and Sivaganga (238).
In all, 4,773 people got discharged in the region. The number of active cases climbed to 65,571 on Wednesday, an increase of 1,833 than Tuesday. Madurai and Kanyakumari (10,871) have more than 10,000 active cases each.
The central region registered 5,523 fresh cases taking the tally to 199,526. Thanjavur recoded 995 fresh cases, followed by Nagapattinam (820) and Tiruvarur (796) in the central part of the state. The number of active cases in the region touched 40,051 on Wednesday. Trichy has 10,823 cases, the highest in the region, while Thanjavur logged 7,199 active cases. Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam counted 5,946 and 4,978 active cases.
However, the region saw 3,983 people recovered from the infection. Trichy (1264) recorded the highest number of discharges, while Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam discharged 666 and 651 patients.
Among the casualties, Ariyalur recorded seven deaths.
