Nathan Ake has opened up on how is out to try and emulate Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk this weekend.

Ake’s Manchester City side will be looking to make history on Saturday by winning the European Cup for the first time in the club’s history.

Pep Guardiola’s side face Premier League rivals Chelsea in Portugal, who will be looking to lift the famous trophy for the second time and will be competing in their third final.

And Ake has revealed how he hopes to replicate the success of his international team-mate Van Dijk by lifting the Champions League trophy on Saturday night.

The Dutchman was a beaten finalist with the Reds back in 2018, before going one better the following season when his side overcame Tottenham Hotspur in the final in Madrid.

“I think every young kid [dreams of playing in the final]. Especially Dutch players as well," Ake said. "I think Seedorf won three or four, so there are so many big players in Holland that have done it.

“Recently, Virgil van Dijk and the boys from the national team did it as well, so as a Dutch player you grow up with it and you want to do it.

"Now, we are so close and it will be great to do it. This is one of the biggest cups in world football.

“You have got national team cups like the Euros and the World Cup, but this one is a very big cup and every player wants to be able to play this and to win it.
