Close shave for 100 as train to Malda derails
Malda: Around 100 passengers on board a DMU train had a close shave as it derailed at Harishchandrapur Station on Sunday. The incident took place around 4.50pm as the Malda-bound 075720 Dn DMU passenger train from Siliguri, which started its run from Sunday, was entering the station.
The driver quickly brought the train to a stop. Casualties were averted because it was travelling at a slow speed.
Abdul Latif, a villager who witnessed the episode, said: “The train was taking a turn at the signal point on the west side when the wheel of the engine fell off the rails.”
The divisional railway manager of Katihar, Ravinder Kumar Verma, said: “Investigation is on.” He added that there would be no rail disruptions.
