3 siblings among 4 children dead within 24 hours in Darbhanga hospital
Four children have died at Bihar’s Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital since Saturday, including three siblings who had tested negative for Covid, report Sheezan Nezami and Binay Kumar Jha. The fourth child was Covid-positive and had co-morbidities, the hospital said.
Pediatrics head Dr K N Mishra, who is also the teaching hospital’s officiating principal, scotched speculation that the deaths might be linked to MIS-C, short for multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children.
Siblings Pooja (12), Chandan (9) and Aarti Yadav (8) of Eathrwa village in Madhubani district died of complications caused by pneumonia, septicaemia and severe haemoglobin deficiency within 24 hours of each other, he said. “Before being hospitalised in a critical condition on Friday, the children’s family had taken them to quacks.”
