Free for seniors: Pasadena Senior Center offers free events in June via Zoom, including a class on financial fitness, 10 a.m. Thursday, June 3; and a discussion on common foot problems at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 10. Registration in advance is required, but membership and Pasadena residency is not. All participants will receive an email link for each activity. World adventures online at the library: It would be virtually impossible not to have fun at two events offered by the Los Angeles County Public Library system. First, join Alfredo Ortiz as he weaves music through his experience of migrations, hardships and successes. The composer and author will perform on the Paraguayan harp and reflect on the cultural and musical heritage of South America. Catch “World Adventures with my Harp,” at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 3. Also, chef and culinary historian Hae Jung Cho presents a kimchi workshop, 11 a.m. Saturday, June 5. Learn how to prepare water and cucumber kimchi in this event for adults. Family movies: Join the fun at the Azusa Drive-In movie series, presented by the city’s Community Resources Department. Movies are shown at 8 p.m. Fridays at Northside Park, 601 W. 11th St. in Azusa. Master series – Ancient Egypt: Seniors 50 and older are invited to join Timothy Doran, associate professor of ancient history at Cal State Los Angeles, as he examines Egyptian history from prehistoric times through the death of Cleopatra in 30 B.C. This Masters Series, offered by the Pasadena Senior Center, will be online via Zoom from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, June 8-29. Admission for the seven-week term is $60 for nonmembers. Author authors: Whittier Public Library Foundation continues its “Virtual Author Series” Wednesdays in June. For $25, get access to one of five Zoom talks with award-winning authors, or get access to all five talks for $100. Proceeds will benefit the Central Library renovations (whittierplf.org). The kids’ play area, entertainment and some food services are discontinued, but the fair still makes Friday nights lively in Old Town.
