UP: Five children drown in Gonda district

LUCKNOW: Five children of a same family drowned on Thursday while digging soil near a water body in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh.
Police said that the deceased were identified as- Chanchal (08), Shivakant (06), Ragini (08), Prakashini (10), and Muskan (12). All of the five were siblings.
Gonda SP Santosh Mishra said that the incident took place in Rasoolpur village under Khondare police station area.

Mishra also said that prima facie the family has told police that the children had first gone to fields taking manure and then they went to dig soil near a pond during which one of the children slipped and in order to save him others too jumped and drowned.
Villagers heard cries for help and rushed to the spot but by the time they could reach all children had drowned.
