Alleging ‘harassment’ by Mysuru deputy commissioner Rohini Sindhuri, civic chief Shilpa Nag resigns

The discontent brewing between Mysuru deputy commissioner Rohini Sindhuri and city corporation (MCC) commissioner Shilpa Nag over Covid-19 management came to the fore on Thursday after the latter resigned from IAS, alleging “harassment” by the former.

MYSURU/BENGALURU: The discontent brewing between Mysuru deputy commissioner Rohini Sindhuri and city corporation (MCC) commissioner Shilpa Nag over Covid-19 management came to the fore on Thursday after the latter resigned from IAS, alleging “harassment” by the former.
While Nag is a 2014-batch IAS officer, Sindhuri is from the 2009 batch.
Mysuru district in-charge minister ST Somashekar said the government will not accept Nag’s resignation and that he would go to Mysuru on Friday to convince her to rethink her decision.

“Nag has done good work. I will talk to chief minister BS Yediyurappa and chief secretary regarding the issue,” he said. Chief secretary P Ravi Kumar too is expected to visit Mysuru on Friday on the matter, official sources said.
“Sindhuri is constantly complaining to higher-ups that no work is being done in the MCC. There is no conducive environment to work in Mysuru... I am resigning from the Indian Administrative Service,” Nag said, sharing a copy of a handwritten resignation letter she has sent to the chief secretary. “I request you to accept the resignation and relieve me from the moral dilemma, pain and sorrow…” she wrote. Nag alleged Sindhuri had a grudge against her and resented the praise she was getting for controlling Covid-19 in Mysuru city.

Sindhuri dismisses claims
Sindhuri said, “If an officer has an issue, she should bring it to the notice of seniors. Calling it harassment through a press conference is uncalled for.” Sindhuri said she had asked the commissioner to follow Covid management model of rural Mysuru in the city and open more Covid Care Centres. The DC alleged that MCC failed to open a single CCC until recently which pushed her to personally initiate measures and open 3 CCCs in the city. “This does not constitute harassment,” she stated.
The DC said the commissioner has stopped attending Covid review meetings and was submitting contradictory statistics on Covid cases and deaths.
“I had ordered her to rectify it,” she said, releasing a set of letters written to the commissioner.
Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha had written a letter to Somashekar, and sent copies to the CM and chief secretary, seeking a probe into Sindhuri’s move to close down 16 private CCCs. JD(S) and Congress had also alleged she is underreporting Covid numbers.
Sindhuri and Nag have been at loggerheads over Covid management for some time now and matters came to a pass on the spending of Rs 13 crore collected from the corporate sector under CSR.
While the DC claimed that corporation is cornering the lion’s share of the fund and Mysuru and sought details of the spending, the MCC commissioner denied the charge and released an 18-page press note listing the expenses.
Police broke open the lock of an MCC storeroom where materials bought under the CSR funds and donations from organisations were kept.
The last straw proved to be a WhatsApp post on Thursday in a group of the information department showing nearly 90% of the city areas in the red zone. Nag alleged that it was a plot to defame her and create panic among people.
