Open Book Exam: DAVV to conduct entrance test for admission

INDORE: Owing to open book examination pattern, majority of the students are most likely to acquire comparatively higher percentage and this will be a hassle for the educational institutions and recruiters to grade candidates on basis of academics.
It has become important for the varsity to conduct an entrance test for admission as students would have high percentage due to the open book examination, DAVV vice-chancellor Dr Renu Jain told TOI.
While the varsity has already decided to conduct the entrance test in order to ensure that quality isn’t hampered, recruiters too rely on multiple factors other than academic achievements.
While some of the firms have been opting to conduct a written test to check the eligibility of the candidates, some have been testing the analytical skills of the candidates and other achivements of the candidates.
“Academic qualifications is just one part of the recruitment process. Majority of the companies keep a minimum qualification as basic eligibility criteria. They consider many other aspects of the candidates especially the add ons on their resume,” head of the centralized placement cell of DAVV, Dr Govind Maheshwari told TOI.
Maheshwari who has been handling the placement for nearly one and a half decades said the higher percentage due to the open book exam will be a challenge for the students who are average and have secured higher percentage as the interviewer would consider them of higher calibre.
Some of the firms have also been opting for video resumes of the candidates to test basic traits making it easier for the recruiter to make a more informed decision on whether to engage with the candidate any further.
“Academic qualifications just sets candidates apart, we also test the logical abilities and presence of mind,” HR recruiter, Pragati Barve told TOI.
