Thane: Two robbed in separate incidents by men posing as cops, civic officers

In two separate incidents of cheating, victims were robbed of their gold ornaments worth collectively Rs 3 lakh by impersonating policemen and fake civic officers at Kalwa and Mumbra respectively.

THANE: In two separate incidents of cheating, victims were robbed of their gold ornaments worth collectively Rs 3 lakh by impersonating policemen and fake civic officers at Kalwa and Mumbra respectively.
In the first incident, a 72-year-old woman was walking near Parsik circle after buying vegetables was approached by two men a on bike identified who claimed to be policemen.

The man told the woman that his superior is calling her. She started walking with them and asked why she was stopped to which the men said that she should not be roaming with gold ornaments for her security.
She was asked to remove the jewellery. Initially, she was apprehensive but when the accused told her that they were asking other passersby to do the same, she complied but was not able to find anything to keep it safe.
The other accused readily offered her a plastic bag and paper to wrap the jewellery and handed over the bag to her. When the woman came home she did not find anything in the bag. The jewellery worth Rs 1.65 lakh was missing and she realised that she has been cheated.
A case registered at Kalwa police station.
In the second incident, an autorickshaw driver while driving on Retibunder road was stopped by fake civic officers who told her to keep his ornaments inside a bag and robbed them of jewellery worth Rs 2.2 lakh.
The police have warned the citizens not to fall prey to such cheats.
