Manipur reports 740 recoveries, 717 fresh Covid-19 cases

The number of recovered Covid-19 patients outnumbered the new cases as Manipur reported 740 recoveries against 717 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, according to a press release.

The state also reported total fatalities of nine Covid-19 patients, taking the state’s Covid-19 death toll to 872, the release said. The deceased individuals were from Imphal East (four), Imphal West (three), one each in Bishnupur and Kakching districts.

This is the first time since May 4 when fresh Covid-19 deaths plunged down to single digit in the state, which had witnessed the highest single-day Covid-19 deaths of 20 people on May 18.

With 717 new Covid 19 positive cases, the state’s total infection tally rose to 54,407 while the total number of active cases stands at 9,016, the release said.

The new positive cases were from 15 districts in the state and maximum numbers of cases were reported from Imphal West (245), Imphal East (141) and Churachandpur (98) districts.

Even though 44,519 persons, including 740 in the last 24 hours have recovered so far, the recovery rate reduced to 81.82 percent.

As of Saturday, 6,81,479 persons were screened at the entry points of the state while 7,51,763 persons were tested for Covid-19 at the various testing centres in the state

Meanwhile, Manipur police detained 161 persons across the state for violating health protocols and released them after giving warning. An amount of INR 50,500 was also collected as fine.

Covid-19 negative report mandatory

Covid-19 negative test report has been made mandatory for all pharmacies, workshops and other categories of shops that have been approved for opening during restricted schedules and time periods within Imphal West district. Shopkeepers and persons manning pharmacies, workshops and other approved categories of shops should get tested and produce a negative test report for Covid-19 on or before June 8, according to a government order issued on Friday.

It said that the test results are required to be shown when enquired for production by police and district administration, failing which the permission for opening such shops and establishments shall be withdrawn.

Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh inaugurated a Covid care centre at a private hospital at Canchipur, near Imphal. The centre has earmarked around 60 beds for the children below 15 years of age.

Further, the chief minister planted a tree sapling on the sideline of inspecting a Covid care centre at the newly constructed men’s hostel of the Manipur University.
