Manipur witnesses declining trend in Covid-19 fatalities

Manipur continued to witness a declining trend in daily Covid-19 fatalities as the state on Sunday recorded nine deaths due to the infection, according to a daily press release issued by the Health department.

This is the second time since May 4 when fresh Covid-19 deaths plunged single digit in the state, which had witnessed the highest single-day Covid 19 deaths of 20 people on May 18. The first single digit deaths cases was reported on June 5.

The deceased individuals were from Imphal East (four), Imphal West (three), one each from Kakching and Kangpokpi districts. They expired at three hospitals in the state.

On the other hand, the state recorded 823 new Covid-19 positive cases when 8,773 persons were tested, taking the state’s total infection tally to 55,230 with an active caseload of 9,184, the release said.

The new positive cases were from 16 districts in the state and maximum numbers of cases were reported from Imphal West (245), Imphal East (193) and Churachandpur (86) districts.

Even though 45,165 persons, including 646 in the last 24 hours, have recovered so far, the recovery rate reduced to 81.77 percent.

As of Sunday, 6,82,096 persons were screened at the entry points of the state while 7,60,536 persons were tested for Covid-19 at the various testing centres in the state

Meanwhile, Manipur police on Sunday detained 116 persons across the state for violating health protocols and released them after giving warning. An amount of INR 39,850 was also collected as fine.
