Sagar Rana murder case: Sushil Kumar a threat to witnesses and victims, Delhi Police tells court

The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police told the court that tainted wrestler Sushil Kumar can use his money and power to cause harm to the remaining victims/witnesses in the Sagar Rana murder case.

Delhi Police told the Rohini Court on Monday that Sushil Kumar and his associates can cause harm to the victims and witnesses after 4 pleaded for protection. Sushil Kumar and his associate Ajay were sent to 14 days judicial custody last week in connection with the Sagar Rana murder case.

The Crime Branch has filed an application in the court and has requested to provide protection to the witnesses and victims, expressing the threat of danger to their lives.

Police told the court that the accused involved in the murder, Sushil Kumar, is an international wrestler, has money and is an influential person therefore, can use his power to cause harm to the remaining victims and witnesses in the case. Crime Branch also told the court that this case is very sensitive and is being covered extensively in the media.

Giving a big disclosure in the court, it has been told that 4 of Sushil's associates arrested in this case have a criminal record, they are residents of Haryana and are members of dangerous gangs active in Delhi NCR.

On the night of the incident with Sagar and Sonu, Sushil had 3 more accomplices, who are both witnesses and victims in this case.

One of these witnesses/victims filed a petition in the Delhi High Court, fearing danger to himself and his family, and pleaded for protection. The High Court has also asked agencies to provide security under the under witness protection scheme-2018.

Interestingly, security was Sushil Kumar was also beefed up inside the Tihar Jail after the two-time Olympic medalist faced threat to life from gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Sampat Nehra.

Keeping in mind the threats to Sushil's life, Bishnoi has been shifted to high security ward of Tihar Jail No. 1. Nehra was also shifted from Mandoli Jail to Tihar Jail.

CCTV cameras are being used and personnel of paramilitary force are guarding the 38-year-old's ward round the clock.

Sushil and his associates have been accused of abducting Sagar from his house in Model Town and killing him during a brawl in Delhi's Chattrasal Stadium on the night of May 4.
