KOLKATA: A four-member central team visited Patharpratima in South 24 Parganas on Monday to assess the losses suffered due to Cyclone Yaas, which hit the Bengal coastal belt on May 26.
The team, led by S K Shahi, reached Patharpratima by helicopter and held a meeting with district officials where local MLA Samir Jana was also present.
Jana told them that no cracks had developed in the concrete embankment of G Plot, and sought central funds to put up similar embankments on other islands.
District officials submitted a report on the losses and a pictorial report.
The team was taken to spots where embankments had been breached and water was yet to recede. They visited Bharatala in Ramganga, where houses were majorly damaged, and were shown flooded betel vines. They also went to Narayanitala and Gopalnagar.
The team will visit East Midnapore on Tuesday, where all 25 blocks, including Mandarmani and Digha, were battered by Yaas.
