CHENNAI: The Kilpauk all-woman police arrested a commerce teacher at Maharishi Vidya Mandir for sexually harassing a girl student.
The school management suspended the teacher, J Anand, on May 28 after some of his former students posted in social media about his sexual advances and harassments.
The Tamil Nadu State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (TNSCPCR) summoned Anand to appear before it on June 10 for an inquiry.
The district Child Welfare Committee (CWC) conducted inquiries and sent a detailed report to the state government.
Police investigations got delayed as none of the alumni was ready to file a formal complaint though they were willing to complain informally.
A woman, who studied in the school in 2014, lodged a formal complaint against the teacher for sexually harassing her. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case against Anand under sections of the POCSO Act and arrested him. He was remanded in judicial custody.
