Manipur reports 748 new Covid-19 cases, 12 more fatalities

Manipur on Tuesday reported 12 fatalities due to Covid-19, taking the state’s death toll to 908.

“In the last 24 hours, the state level Covid-19 deaths audit committee has reported 12 Covid-19 deaths” says a press release issued by Dr. Khoirom Sasheekumar, additional director and spokesperson of the Manipur Health department on Tuesday.

“The district wise distribution are Imphal West (four) and Imphal East (four), Churachandpur (two), Thoubal (one) and Bishnupur(one)”.

They expired at five health centres in the state, it stated.

On the other hand, the state recorded 748 new cases, taking the state’s tally to 56,576 with 9,141positive cases, it said. The new positive cases were detected from 16 districts in the state and maximum numbers of cases were reported from Imphal West (205), Imphal East (162) and Thoubal (120) districts. 

Even though 46,527 persons, including 579 in the last 24 hours, have recovered so far, the recovery rate stood at 82.23 percent. As of Tuesday, 6,83,211 persons were screened at the entry points of the state while 7,74,451 persons were tested for Covid-19 at the various testing centres in the state

Meanwhile Manipur police detained 255 persons across the state for violating health protocols and released them after giving warning. An amount of INR 1,01,950 was also collected as fine.

On the other hand the state has so far given 5,16,125 anti-Covid jabs including 4,35,172 first and 80,953 second doses to the residents. Till date, the first dose of Covishield vaccine was given to 1,46,796 people between 45-59 years and 90,851 people above 60 years besides 61,119 people between 18-44 years. The total number of healthcare workers vaccinated with the first dose of Covishield vaccine is 39,706 while 24,715 of them got the second dose of vaccines, the sources said.

Similarly, 96,698 frontline workers received the first dose while 49,654 got the second dose of Covishield in the state.
