NAGPUR: City police commissioner Amitesh Kumar has on Monday suspended sub-inspector Dinkar Darade and three other constables of Yashodhara Nagar police station for their alleged role behind extorting Rs1 lakh from a 22-year-old college student in the last week of May.
The other suspended cops are head constable Manoj Bhosale, constables Prasenjit Jhambhulkar and Rajkumar Pal.
In the past, Pal had been booked by the state anti-corruption bureau too.
It’s learnt that the four had intercepted a light carrier vehicle carrying vegetables to Kalamna market in the early hours of May 28. The vegetables, belonging to a ration shop at Mankapur, were being sent to the Kalamna market. The cops had kept the vehicle aside and brought the driver and the owner’s son to the police station but later released them after taking Rs1 lakh from them.
Zonal DCP Neelotpal, who later sent a report to the CP regarding the incident, received information regarding the episode. He summoned the aggrieved at his office.
Sources said the cops also returned Rs1 lakh to the aggrieved after Neelotpal stepped in. Based on their gross violations, a default report was sent to the CP by Neelotpal following which the top cop took the decision.
