MYSURU: Paediatric trials for Covaxin have started at the Cheluvamba Hospital, which is attached to the Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMCRI). It is the only site in the state where the process is being conducted.
The trials have gained importance as children are likely to face a higher risk in a possible third wave of Covid-19. MMCRI director and dean Dr Nanjaraj CP said the trials started on June 6 and they would continue for the next few weeks.
“In phase I, 60 children aged between 12 to 18 are administered the vaccine. In phase II, children in the age group of 6 and 12 will be given the vaccine after screening,” he said.
The trials will cover the age groups of 12-18, 6-12 and 2-6. Dr Prashanth and Dr Pradeep are the principal investigators. Mysuru had earlier hosted clinical trials of Covishield.
