Two held for brewing illicit liquor in Thiruvananthapuram

Despite stringent enforcement drive and numerous catches, the activity of illicit liquor brewing continues to thrive in the district. On Monday night, excise officials at Vamanapuram range arrested a man who was brewing hooch at home.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Despite stringent enforcement drive and numerous catches, the activity of illicit liquor brewing continues to thrive in the district.
On Monday night, excise officials at Vamanapuram range arrested a man who was brewing hooch at home.
The officials also seized 140 litres of wash from his residence. The accused has been identified as Mahesh alias Monayi of Mahesh Bhavan near Meenmutti.
A few hours before that the arrest, the team had arrested another man from Anchanakuzhikkara near Palode. The accused was identified as Asokan. During the raid , 105 litres of wash was seized from his residence.
Both the catches were made during raids conducted in Palode and Vithura regions based on a tip off received by Vamanapuram excise range inspector G Mohan Kumar.
The same team had seized counterfeit currency notes equivalent to over Rs 1.60 lakh a few days ago after raiding an illicit liquor making unit at Madathara.
