Gujarat: Fed-up of illness, 75-year-old woman immolates self

A 75-year-old woman died during treatment at Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research (SMIMER) on Tuesday after she allegedly set herself on fire.

SURAT: A 75-year-old woman died during treatment at Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research (SMIMER) on Tuesday after she allegedly set herself on fire.
Ganga Goswami, doused herself in sanitiser and torch herself during early hours on Sunday.
She was shifted to the hospital in critical condition where she succumbed to the burns.

Suspecting it to be a case of suicide, the police registered a case of accidental death at Varachha police station.
Her family told police that she was fed-up due to multiple physical ailments. Due to unbearable pain, she took the extreme step.
"She was suffering from diabetes and other related illnesses. She was suffering from body pain as well," said a police officer.
The family told police that they were getting her treatment done properly and arranged required medicines but she used to complain of pain.
"She told me on Saturday evening that she had severe pain and we decided to go for her medical examination the next day. But before that she took the extreme step," her son Pravin told TOI.
