Monsoon 2021: Mumbai receives heavy rain; red alert issued

Mumbai received a lashing of heavy rain on Wednesday. The downpour led to waterlogging in several areas. The maximum city started receiving moderate to heavy showers in the morning. Soon, dark clouds shrouded parts of the city leading to decreased visibility. The continuous rains led to waterlogging in most low-lying areas. Local train services were also affected. The BEST diverted routes of several buses. The BMC was forced to temporarily close a few vaccination centers due to waterlogging in the premises. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray reviewed the rain situation in Mumbai and coastal districts. He also took stock of the situation from BMC Control Room and District Collectors of Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Palghar. Meanwhile, Mumbai mayor Kishori Kishor Pednekar and BMC Commissioner I S Chahal reviewed the preparations made by BMC to tackle waterlogging.
