Yaas damage: Central team visits Budge Budge, meets Bengal officials
Kolkata: A central team on Wednesday visited Pujali area in Budge Budge to gauge the damage caused by cyclone Yaas. Following this, the team led by S K Shahi, a joint secretary of the home ministry, went to Nabanna to hold a meeting with top state officials.
They had earlier visited Patharpratima and Gosaba in South 24 Parganas and Digha and Mandarmani in East Midnapore.

At Nabanna, state officials handed over a memorandum of losses suffered. After consulting this, the team will be submitting its report in Delhi. The officials, however, said the actual scenario would be clear once water receded and damage to houses was visible. State officials felt an initial grant of Rs 5,000 crore could help restructure the losses.
CM Mamata Banerjee had asked for Rs 20,000 crore to meet the long-term goals of setting up concrete embankments and redesigning Sunderbans and Digha coastal belts. tnn
