The fire broke out around 7 p.m. at a building that holds six apartments in the 1300 block of Kenneth Avenue.

BREAKING NEW DETAILS. KYLI KYLIE: NEIGHBORS TELLING FIRE CREWS SOMEONE WAS TRAPPED INSIDE THIS APARTMENTUI BLDING ALONG KENNETH AVEN. WHEN FIREFIGHTERS GOT INSIDE, A BODY WAS FOUND ON THE FIRST FLOOR. >> THEY KNOCKED A GOOD BF O FIRE DOWN BUT THE FIRE AT THAT TIME NOW EXTEND FUDERTHER INTO THE FIRST FLOOR. STARTED UP THE WALLS INTO ETH SECOND FLO AORND GOT UP INTO THE THIRD FLOOR AND AT THAT TIMEHE T FIREFIGHTERS FOUND A BODY. LIKY FIRE POURED OUT OF THE WINDOWS OF THIS HOME, ALONG WITH BLACK SMOKE. THE CHIEF SAYS THERE ARE SIX APARTMENTS INSIDE, AND THAT THIS IS AN OLDER HOME. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT GOT CALLED OUT AT AROUND 7:12, AND WHEN THEY GOT HERE, THE CHIEF SAYS THERE WAS A LOT OF FIRE THAT CREWS HAD TO PUT OUT BEFORE THEY ULCOD GO INSIDE. One person has died following an apartment building fire in New Kensington on Wednesday evening.The fire broke out around 7 p.m. at a building that holds six apartments in the 1300 block of Kenneth Avenue.New Kensington fire Chief Ed Saliba said the fire was heavy and there was a lot of heat on the first floor when firefighters arrived.Saliba said as firefighters entered the building, the fire then extended to the second and third floors. Firefighters found the victim’s body in an apartment located on the first floor. All other residents were able to escape. Saliba said the flames were intense and they did everything they could to try to save the person found inside. One firefighter was taken to an area hospital for heat exhaustion, Saliba confirmed.Seven people who lived in the building are now displaced and the Red Cross is at the scene assisting them. Saliba said as firefighters entered the building, the fire then extended to the second and third floors.

Firefighters found the victim’s body in an apartment located on the first floor. All other residents were able to escape.

Saliba said the flames were intense and they did everything they could to try to save the person found inside.

One firefighter was taken to an area hospital for heat exhaustion, Saliba confirmed.

Seven people who lived in the building are now displaced and the Red Cross is at the scene assisting them.
