16 more Covid deaths in Goa on Wednesday, positivity rate touches 14%

Goa’s Covid-19 mortality count shot to 2,878 with 16 deaths recorded on Wednesday and two were added to the cumulative toll following late reporting by a private hospital. As many as 456 fresh cases and 549 recoveries were reported in the last 24 hours.

The case positivity rate has reached 14% and the recovery rate is at 94.6%, while the active caseload marginally reduced to 5,790. There were fewer discharges and 66 patients were hospitalised.
PANAJI: Goa’s Covid-19 mortality count shot to 2,878 with 16 deaths recorded on Wednesday and two were added to the cumulative toll following late reporting by a private hospital. As many as 456 fresh cases and 549 recoveries were reported in the last 24 hours.
The case positivity rate has reached 14% and the recovery rate is at 94.6%, while the active caseload marginally reduced to 5,790.
There were fewer discharges and 66 patients were hospitalised.
Of the 16 mortalities reported over the last 24 hours, 12 died at the GMC, two at the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) and one each at a private hospital in North and South Goa.
A 65-year-old man, from Bardez who had comorbidities such as diabetes and hypertension died within 24 hours after he was admitted to GMC. He had tested positive on May 28.
A 58-year-old Mandrem resident, with multiple comorbidities, died within four days after he was admitted to a private hospital for treatment. He tested positive the day he was admitted to the hospital.
An average hospital stay of about six patients was a week or less, two were under hospital treatment for about a month, and eight of them were for two weeks.
On Wednesday, both Margao and Ponda saw their cases falling below the 500-mark, while other centres of South Goa, had cases less than 200 each, except for Cortalim which had 228 cases.
In North Goa, Panaji urban health centre has the highest — 303 cases, followed by Porvorim with 240 cases. The active caseload of other centres has gone below 200 cases.
With the government opening up vaccination for a priority group, as many as 5,474 doses were administered on Wednesday, while a total of 9,510 people across all categories were vaccinated during the day.
