Loy Chong Says: Generally Churches Agree On Jab
Fiji Council of Churches president and head of the Catholic Church in Fiji Archbishop Peter Loy Chong.

Generally, the churches agree on people getting the COVID-19 vaccination.

That is the stance from Fiji Council of Churches president and head of the Catholic Church in Fiji amid the conspiracy theories on religious doctrines against the COVID-19 vaccination.

“We have listed things in our response to the virus. I can’t speak on the teaching because it will differ from church to church,” Archbishop Loy Chong said.

“One of the things was to do a webinar that is available on Zoom and on Facebook on some perspectives on the Bible and theology and how we should respond to coronavirus.

“We want to correct the information regarding the vaccine and the misinterpreted biblical theological interpretations of the vaccine.”

Shree Sanatan Dharam Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji president Sarju Prasad said the World Health Organisation, as a specialised international agency, had already given its recommendation for the vaccine to fight COVID-19.

As such, Mr Prasad said there was no impediment faith-wise, or religion-wise to get vaccinated.

“It is a scientific research, and it has come through proper investigation and approved by the World Health Organisation,” he said.

“All Shree Sanatan Dharam Pratinidhi Sabha has no problem with it. We believe that religion must comprehend science and science must comprehend religion.

“I urge and humbly request each and every individual to get the jab.”

While there was no law on mandatory vaccination, getting vaccinated could counter the crisis, he added.

Mr Prasad will get his second jab next month.

The organisation has more than 200,000 devotees nationwide.
